Welcome!
I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about the virtue of DILIGENCE.
Are workers today LAZY? Well, nearly half of employees think their CO-WORKERS are!
In Mavenlink’s “Future of Work Survey,” a whopping 47% of workers named their fellow-employees’ laziness as their “Number One Pet Peeve.” (see “Mavenlink Future of Work Survey Shows 47% of Employees Feel Lazy Coworkers Are Number-One Pet Peeve – Carrick.” Carrick, 15 Mar. 2023)
In contrast to laziness, DILIGENCE is the idea of consistency in doing a job responsibly, thoroughly, and eagerly. We often describe a diligent person as “on the ball” — one that can always be counted on.
Being diligent helps us be good testimonies, and Scripture tells us that it also PAYS to be diligent. Proverbs 13:4 says, “The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich” (NKJV). In other words, practicing diligence is always worth the effort.
As author Henry Cloud says, “Diligence is not easy, but we can’t reach our goals without it.” (Cloud, Henry, and John Townsend. God Will Make a Way: What to Do When You Don’t Know What to Do. Thomas Nelson, 2003, pg. 292)
And what other virtues should be important to believers? We’ll discuss that another time.
