Is War Ever Justified? (Part 2)

Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!

Today, we’re talking about whether war is ever justifiable.

Nations have armies to protect their citizens, but aren’t soldiers who take other soldiers’ lives on the battlefield breaking the Sixth Commandment – “Thou shalt not kill?”

Well, Jesus said in Matthew 24:6, “And you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that you be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass.” (KJV) In other words, war is simply an unfortunate part of living in a fallen world.

That’s why when a centurion – the leader of a large group of Roman soldiers – came to Jesus and asked Him to heal his servant, Jesus praised the centurion for his faith – but DIDN’T tell him to leave the military.

You see, man’s sinful nature ensures war will continue until Christ returns, and that means sometimes soldiers must go to war to protect their homelands.  So, were the Israelite wars against the Canaanites justified? We’ll discuss that another time.
