Time Management Consultant’s Advice

In the 1920’s, the president of Bethlehem Steel, told time management pioneer, Ivy Lee, “Show me a way to get more things done with my time and I’ll pay you anything within reason.”

Lee instructed him to take a moment before going to bed to write down, in order of priority, the six most important things he needed to do the next day. The following day, he was to work on number one until it was done, then move on to number two, and so on down the list. Lee advised him the main objective was not to finish the list, but to make sure he was spending time on the most important thing. If he didn’t finish the list using this method, he wouldn’t have finished it using any other method either, but at least he got the most important things done.

Lee soon received a check for $25,000 because he shared the Biblical principle of doing first things first as a method of redeeming the time.

Rick Grubbs is best known as the host of “Redeeming the Time,” a one-minute radio program featured on hundreds of radio outlets around the world.
