Massachusetts Legalizes Abortion To Moment of Birth

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey signed into law last month one of the most vile pro-abortion measures in the nation. It can rightly be described as next door to infanticide. Abortion up to the moment of birth, for any reason, with no exceptions required.

The bill was called the Prioritizing Patient Access to Care Act. That name is the first lie. Before this law, Massachusetts already permitted abortion up to twenty-four weeks, the point generally recognized at which a baby can hear, taste, feel pain, and survive outside the womb. This new law removes that limit entirely. Now a physician’s own “professional judgment” is the only standard. No gestational limits, no medical emergencies required — no restrictions whatsoever. Massachusetts becomes the tenth state in the nation with no statutory limit on abortion at any point in pregnancy.

The bill was pushed through the legislature in a matter of days and signed before most residents had time to react. The signing ceremony was filmed, and the footage went viral for reasons that should disturb us all. The women gathered around the governor were not somber or conflicted. They were laughing, cheering, and clapping as if they had won the lottery. Doctors in white coats beamed with delight. Pro-life leader Lila Rose posted a photo of a twenty-eight-week-old baby on life support — a fully formed, living human being — and noted that this is now what Massachusetts law permits ending.

The law also removes the previous requirement that late-term abortions be performed in a hospital — eliminating a basic safety protection for women undergoing dangerous procedures.

According to Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, only ten percent of Americans support abortion until birth. That number tells you everything you need to know about how far removed this law is from the actual values of the American people — even those who consider themselves “pro-choice.”

Combined with surrogacy laws that allow children to be taken from their surrogate mothers at birth, this shift in Massachusetts policy indicates that the Bay State has embraced the view that children are products — things to be acquired or discarded based on adult preference.
