Isaac Shelby – October 7, 1780

Experience the American dream with today’s Patriot of the Past interview. I’m your host, John Gillespie.

It’s October 7, 1780. I’m at the Battle of Kings Mountain with Colonel Isaac Shelby.

JG: “Colonel Shelby, British Major Ferguson said if you don’t surrender, he will kill you and burn all the Carolinas.”

IS: “Hahaha … Mr. Gillespie, we are Scottish-Irish Americans who love freedom. No British upstart is going to come to our country and threaten my family and freedom. Major Ferguson dies today.”

Major Ferguson and 700 British did die that day as Colonel Shelby and his over-the-mountain men won a decisive victory at Kings Mountain.
