Welcome!
I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about the Fruit of the Spirit again.
In its “State of Kindness Poll,” NBC News found that 62% of respondents believe children aren’t as kind today as in the past. (Korba, Lauren. “Kids Aren’t as Kind as They Used to Be, Survey Finds.” Yahoo! Life, 14 May 2020) The survey also found that Americans “don’t put kindness at the top of the list when it comes to teaching kids values.”
Scripture, on the other hand, lists KINDNESS as an important attribute of the Christian. KINDNESS is an intentional act of thoughtfulness expressed in a friendly and considerate way. As the Holy Spirit produces KINDNESSin a person’s heart, harshness, resentment, and irritation give way to joyful generosity.
As Blaise Pascal said, “Kind words do not cost much. They never blister the tongue or lips. They make other people good-natured. They also produce their own image on men’s souls, and a beautiful image it is.” (Pascal, Blaise. Pensées. Translated by A. J. Krailsheimer, Penguin Classics, 1995)
Now what other attribute does the Fruit of the Spirit produce in believers? We’ll discuss that another time.
