Welcome!
Today, we’re talking about character.
According to a recent article by USA Today, “Road rage injuries and deaths involving guns have increased every year since 2018 and about doubled from 2018 to 2022.” (Hauck, Grace. “Road Rage Shootings Are Increasing. There Were More Than 500 Last Year, Report Finds.” USA TODAY, 21 Mar. 2023, www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/03/20/road-rage-shootings-rising-us-report-finds/11484488002) As a culture, we are becoming more angry and less PATIENT!
PATIENCE — one of the Fruits of the Spirit — is the biblical virtue of putting up with irritations, trials, or hardships with a good attitude instead of letting them rattle us. Patience is refusing to get “bent out of shape” when problems come because we trust God’s will in every aspect of life.
As Stephen Charnock said, “To endure a trial simply because we cannot avoid or resist it, is not Christian patience. But to humbly submit because it is the will of God to inflict the trial, to be silent because the sovereignty of God orders it is true godly patience.” (Short Pithy Gems From the Puritan Stephen Charnock. www.gracegems.org/30/short_pithy_gems_from_Charnoack.htm)
And what else about character is important? We’ll discuss that another time.
