Welcome!
I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about Independence Day.
According to Capital One, Americans spent 15.8 billion on July Fourth last year, including 2 billion on fireworks. But Independence Day should be more than just a time to shoot off fireworks and eat barbeque. After all, Americans should be celebrating the freedom we have to worship God, speak our minds, and live lives that honor God.
In fact, American independence was tied to the idea that we are “endowed by our Creator” with the rights of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” as the Declaration of Independence states. Biblical principles were the foundation of our government and still serve as the cornerstone of our freedoms. As John Quincy Adams said, “The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.”
