Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!
Today, we’re talking about Hell.
According to researcher George Barna, 71% of Americans believe in Hell – but only 0.005% of people say they think they’ll be sent there!
So … why the disconnect? Well, sadly, it comes down to people believing in their own personal goodness and ignoring the fact that they are sinners deserving of divine punishment. In contrast, Romans 3:23 tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (NKJV) and that only by grace can we be saved from the judgment we deserve.
As author J. Warner Wallace said, “God doesn’t send good people to Hell. In order to consider ourselves ‘good,’ we typically have to overlook much of what we think about and a lot of what we have done.”
Recognizing our sinfulness and turning to Christ is the one way to escape a very real Hell.
What does the Bible say about Hell? We’ll discuss that another time.
