Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!
Today, we’re talking about slavery in the Bible.
Some critics accuse the Bible of promoting slavery. But did you know there’s an entire New Testament book promoting just the OPPOSITE VIEW?
In the Epistle to Philemon, Paul asks Philemon – a believer and leader in the church – to forgive his runaway slave, Onesimus, whom Paul met, led to Christ, and sent back to Philemon. But get this – Paul told Philemon to receive Onesimus not as a slave anymore but as a BROTHER IN CHRIST. In other words, Philemon was to view Onesimus as an EQUAL. That was a pretty radical concept in the ancient world!
You see, God’s Word teaches that every human being has dignity and worth since all have been made by the same Creator and bear His image.
As the late Billy Graham said, “The ground is level at the foot of the cross.”
What does the Bible say about Hell? We’ll discuss that another time.
