I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about capital punishment.
Capital punishment – or the DEATH PENALTY – has been a controversial topic for decades. While some argue that capital punishment is cruel and outdated, others see it as a way of bringing murderers to justice and preventing more crime. But how much does capital punishment really help in deterring criminals?
Well, a study by the Federal Communication Commission evaluating all 50 states from 1978-1997 found that every state-sponsored execution helps to prevent 14 ADDITIONAL MURDERS EVERY YEAR – that’s more than one per month!
Romans 13:4 tells us the government “does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.” (ESV) So, God gave governments the responsibility to carry out such punishment when appropriate.
Not only is capital punishment effective in preventing crime – it’s also biblical.
