SOCIALISM: A Christian Response (Part 2)

Welcome!

I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about socialism again.

Socialists claim the world will inevitably embrace socialism over capitalism. But socialism runs counter to God’s design of human nature.

As Arthur Brooks said, “Advocates of free enterprise believe that creativity, enterprise, and ingenuity are essential parts of human nature. Capitalism aims to take advantage of the self-interest of human nature, knowing that the collateral effects will be a more…benevolent society.”

God created us to achieve … and to work … and receive compensation. But that aspect of human nature is discouraged — sometimes even prohibited — under socialism.

Deuteronomy 8:18 says, “But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.”

In the end, it’s the Christian worldview — NOT the Marxist worldview — that best reflects human nature’s desire to reach its God-given potential and reap the reward of diligent work that we can then WILLINGLY share with others.

And how else should Christians respond to socialism? We’ll discuss that another time.
