A Minute of Silence

Did you know that today at 3 pm many Americans will be silent for a minute as Taps is played and will reflect on the true meaning of this holiday—the sacrifice of men and women who have given their lives for our freedom? Known as the National Moment of Remembrance and recognized by the federal government since 1997, this moment came about to help everyone, but especially young people, know this special day is about more than cookouts, school ending, and summer starting.

So what will you do this Memorial Day to ensure the younger generations know the truth about this unique American holiday? Why not incorporate the National Moment of Silence into your plans, taking time to explain the significance of the day and then closing in prayer, thanking God for those who have given their lives for our freedom and for the privilege of living in this country?
