Wisconsin Congressman Scott Fitzgerald voted last week to pass H.R. 7187, the Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act in a Judiciary Committee Markup. The legislation prohibits any governing body recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee from allowing men to participate in any athletic event intended for females. The bill similarly modifies eligibility requirements for amateur sports governing organizations. This Markup vote is an important step in the bill advancing in the US House.

While Congressman Fitzgerald is working hard to protect women’s sports at the highest levels, our state legislature has passed a bill to protect women’s sports in our K12 public schools. Women and girls deserve this protection at every level of athletic competition. Hopefully, the governor will sign the state bill when it lands on his desk.
