This past August Assembly Speaker Robin Vos convened a bipartisan Task Force on Human Trafficking, with Representative Jerry O’Connor chairman. On Wednesday, the task force presented its formal report. A number of bills will be introduced as a result of the task force’s work, including, among others, establishing a statewide Human Trafficking Council, increased awareness of the issue in public schools, and establishing a two point five million dollar matching grant program for organizations that help victims.

Human trafficking is very real in Wisconsin. We hope some of these proposals will become law soon. In the meantime, individuals and churches can help by getting informed and working with not-for-profits engaged with this issue. Wisconsin Family Council has a helpful white paper on human trafficking in Wisconsin available at wifamilycouncil.org.
