A Waukesha county judge ruled Tuesday that Kettle Moraine School District’s policy of changing students’ names and pronouns at school without parental consent and over their objection violates parents’ rights. Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty and Alliance Defending Freedom represent two sets of parents challenging the policy and filed the lawsuit two years ago. One of the couples suing the district was forced to withdraw their then twelve-year-old daughter from the district to protect her mental health and preserve their parental role.

This case actually started with one of the parents calling our office distraught over what was happening to their daughter. We urged them to call Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty—and we are so glad they did. This win is a really significant one for parental rights—and school districts here should pay close attention.
