John Witherspoon – August 1, 1776

It’s August 1, 1776. I’m at Princeton University Chapel listening to Reverend John Witherspoon’s sermon. Reverend Witherspoon was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and taught thirty Founding Fathers, including James Madison. Let’s listen in.

JW: “God, grant that in America a true religion and civil liberty may be inseparable, and that the unjust attempts to destroy one may support the unity of both.”
