Daniel Webster – March 5, 1841

Experience the American dream with today’s Patriot of the Past interview. I’m your host, John Gillespie.

It’s March 5, 1841. I’m at the Capitol Building with Secretary of State Daniel Webster.

JG: “Mr. Secretary, what words of yours will be put on the cornerstone of the Capitol?”

DW: “Mr. Gillespie, it will say that we are thankful to Almighty God for liberty, and that it is our sincere prayer that the walls, arches, domes, and towers erected here may endure forever. God save the United States of America!”

It must always be remembered that this nation’s greatness and endurance is when we trust in God.
