The abortion pill is being taken far beyond the limits for which it was approved—and the consequences can be horrific. A recent report details cases of women obtaining abortion drugs online and taking them well into the second and even third trimester. One recent North Carolina case involved a woman who allegedly took the drugs at 31 weeks. Her baby was born alive and was found in a toilet. The baby survived and was hospitalized.
This is what happens when abortion drugs are treated like ordinary medication that can simply be ordered online. There may be no physical examination, no ultrasound, and no doctor actually seeing the patient. And as the pregnancy progresses, the risks of hemorrhage, incomplete abortion, and infection increase.
