For the first time in more than 150 years, a sitting vice president has welcomed a new baby into the world. Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance recently announced the birth of their son, Alec Neel Vance, their fourth child.
Both mother and baby are reported to be healthy, and the family says their three older children are thrilled to meet their new little brother.
The last time a sitting vice president celebrated the birth of a child while in office was in 1870. At a time when America’s birth rate continues to decline, every new life is a reminder that children are not burdens to society—they are blessings, gifts to be cherished, and our hope for the future.
