In twenty twenty-three Canada euthanized enough people to populate a small Canadian town, over fifteen thousand. Of those killed two hundred forty one had dementia. Over six hundred patients were not terminal but fell under Track Two, for example loneliness. The government responds in two ways to Track Two. When they’re lonely but otherwise healthy they get support or prevention. But if they have a disability, “we respond with an offer for MAID.” That’s medical aid in dying. The increase in euthanasia deaths of non-terminal patients was nearly twice the increase of euthanasia deaths of terminal patients. A mother of four was denied pain meds, chemo and oxygen but was offered MAID. She was forced to enter hospice so she could at least get pain meds. This isn’t medicine. It’s barbaric.
