Fast Facts: Geckos – Part I

Carl Kerby

Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope. I’m Carl Kerby.

We’ve all seen the funny Geico commercials that have made this week’s animal a pop star! But have you ever really checked out how amazing the gecko really is?

This incredible reptile has over 1,100 species that live on every continent except Antarctica. They love warm environments because that’s where they can hunt for bugs, worms, crickets, or grasshoppers. They also come in all shapes and sizes – watch out for the New Caledonian Giant Gecko that comes in at a whopping 14 inches! I wouldn’t want that in my home! And you’ve probably never had the chance to see the tiny Cameroon Dwarf Gecko that’s only 5/8 of an inch when they’re born! There’s even the Flap-footed Gecko (you read that right) – they don’t even have legs and look more like a snake!

We’ve not even started on all of the incredible God-designed features of the gecko. We’ll have to save them for next time. Hope you’ll join us. Until then, stay bold!
