Another active news week brought stories you need to be aware of and to understand from a Christian perspective. Here are some highlights from the first quarter hour:
–U.S. CENTCOM announced yesterday that forces struck Iranian targets for the 13th straight night as Israel braces for a counter attack from Iran.
–On Thursday, President Trump said Iranian money controlled by the U.S. will be used to pay for ships damaged as a result of the war in the Middle East.
–The Senate rejected a resolution calling for the U.S. to cease military action in Iran, just hours after the House passed a similar measure amid renewed hostilities following the collapse of the cease-fire.
–Marco Rubio laid down “Trump’s Law” when asked about Iran. Jim provided audio of his comments.
–Nearly 3 years after the October 7, 2023, massacre, Hamas has calmly elected a new head of its political bureau. This demonstrates that the terror group remains sufficiently organized to manage internal, political affairs, while continuing to rule much of the Gaza Strip and dictate the lives of more than 2 million Palestinians.
–The Israeli military confirmed that it’s constructing a physical barrier along the so-called “yellow line” in Gaza.
–Israel has set an election date, October 27th, for the Netanyahu government to complete its full term.
–Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the U.N., commented on the mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdami, who had said he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, when he comes to address the U.N. General Assembly.
–In a show of support for President Trump’s Middle East strategy, Bulgaria’s parliament voted Wednesday to allow the U.S. military to use the nation’s Bezmer airbase to support American operations against Iran.
–The oil producing nations of the Persian Gulf are stepping up their efforts to divert shipping away from the Strait of Hormuz where Iran has been launching terror strikes on civilian vessels.
–Iran repeatedly and reportedly has rejected a new cease-fire deal.
–President Trump paid his respects Wednesday to fallen U.S. service members during a dignified transfer at Dover Air Base in Delaware.
–The U.S. and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement on July 22nd that will allow the Gulf kingdom to develop a civilian nuclear program on its soil.
–Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega declared in a speech last Sunday that all future elections in that nation are suspended.
–The Trump administration is highlighting more than one billion dollars in United Nations budget cuts secured over the past six months.
