While away from US soil this week, the Trump administration has released it’s first annual budget. Today, Jim Schneider discusses the budget with Robert Romano. Robert is the senior editor with Americans for Limited Government, a non partisan organization dedicated to restoring the constitutional limited powers of government at the federal, state and local levels.
Several charges are coming against President Trump’s budget. Some have even said it will be dead on arrival. Romano says this budget will reduce America’s spending by $4.5 trillion – calling it a “sober, conservative budget.” Romano says the last 10 years have been the “worst for economic growth in America’s history” and that it’s “gonna take a long time to clean up this mess.” Romano is encouraged, saying growth is “possible and it should happen.” Creating jobs and getting “more back into the labor force will have a huge impact” Romano says.
Talking points regarding NATO, cuts to food stamps, medicaid, block grants, etc, are all brought out. Romano discusses the repeal and replacement of Obamacare, national defense spending, trade, Trump’s border wall, NAFTA, the EPA, and even Planned Parenthood. Romano says “american taxpayers do not want to fund abortions.”
All in all, Romano says that Americans must be “frugal” rather than using government “solutions” to grow the economy. He adds “as Reagan said, the best social program is a job.”
