Welcome!
I’m Bub Kuns, and we’re talking about adultery.
Not only does adultery destroy marriages, separate families, hurt children, and damage reputations —but it also damages people spiritually.
A well-known example is King David’s adultery with Bathsheba, which led to an unexpected pregnancy, David’s attempt to cover it up by having Bathsheba’s husband murdered, and the eventual ruin of David’s family. But adultery also left David a broken man spiritually, severely damaging his relationship with God. Psalm 51 records David’s feelings after being confronted with his sin by Nathan the prophet: feelings of guilt, despair, and — most significantly — separation from fellowship with God.
As John Piper said, “Immorality cuts off the wings that lift us toward the highest, richest, most durable joy.”
Although God did forgive David, his story is a warning that adultery comes with consequences, most importantly that it breaks our fellowship with the Lord.
Now, what about polyamory? We’ll discuss that another time.
